My metal sculpture is a form of drawing and a platform to incorporate my other mediums. After forging circles and curvilinear pieces of metal, I begin to weld from my palette of forms. I know the metal skeleton is fully realized when I recognize a balance between buoyancy and weight. Only then am I ready to incorporate fragile papers, wire, fibers, or enamel on copper. As in drawing, I look for compositional interest, a diversity of line width, and an emotional response to the raw metal.
